40th Anniversary Celebrations - 2002

2002 marks the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Bon-Accord Silver Band.  To commemorate this fantastic achievement we organized several exciting plans spanning the whole year.

24th to 29th July 2002 - Trip to Regensburg, Germany.

We travelled to Aberdeen's twin town of Regensburg in Germany where we represented the City of Aberdeen at the "Fest am Fluss" music festival celebrating the River Danube.  We were given the great honour of performing in the Festivals Gala Opening Concert with the Symphonisches Blasorchester Regensburg.  Thereafter we spent the rest of our time providing light musical entertainment at several sites along the River Danube.

Many thanks to Aberdeen City Council, and the Fraserburgh Boys Brigade who have provided some of the financial assistance required to undertake this trip.

21 September 2002 - Brass Band Extravaganza Concert by The Foden's Band

Big name brass bands are now becoming a yearly event in Aberdeen!  This year saw the first appearance of the world famous Foden's Band, booked as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Bon-Accord Silver Band.  They performed a gala concert in Aberdeen's Music Hall.

5 October 2002 - CD Recording - St. Mark's Church, Aberdeen - All Day

Both the A and B Band's spent a full day recording what is our second ever commercial recording.  This is now on sale and copies can be purchased from myself or via any member of the committee.  For full details of its contents please see our merchandise page.  You will note that the CD will contains a couple of pieces dear to the members of the Bon-Accord Silver Band -  "Summer Scene" by Philip Sparke was commissioned as a tribute to Stewart Watson for the NYBBS band.  Also a new commission  from the pen of Alan Duguid - an ex-Bon-Accord Band Member currently studying composition and conducting at the RSAMD - is featured as our title track.

15 November 2002 - Bon Accord Band Annual Concert - Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen.  Starts 19:30pm

As a follow-up to the successful inaugural BSB concert we decided to make this an annual event in our calendar.  It gives both Bon-Accord Band's the opportunity to showcase some of the talent within their ranks and this year is an especially special event as 2002 marks the 40th anniversary of the bands foundation.

16 November 2002 - 40th Anniversary Dinner Dance - Hilton Treetops Hotel, Aberdeen.  Starts 19:30pm

As this is the 40th Anniversary of the foundation of our organization we thought that it would be a good idea to bring a few friends back together to reminisce about the good old days.  All ex-members of both Bon-Accord Silver Band's received an invite to attend a grand "Dinner Dance" at the Hilton Treetops Hotel and dancing was led by the fabulous Galik Bread Ceileidh band.
